TLS signed “Eisenhower,” one page, 8 x 10.5, War Department letterhead, May 4, 1935. Letter to Major General George V. H. Moseley, in part: "The presence of Mamie's family in Texas held us there until the very last available minute of our leave so that it was impossible for us to take the somewhat longer route via Atlanta on our way home. Both Mamie and I were very much disappointed to miss the opportunity of paying you a visit, but did not feel that we could cut short our time with her Father and Mother, neither of whom is in particularly good health.
When I returned to Washington I found Major Gerow on duty in the War Plans Division and I know how disappointed you must have been to have lost his services. He was particularly happy there and it is a tragic thing that Kathryn's health is such that they have to stay in the immediate vicinity of Walter Reed. I am afraid that she is in a very serious condition. Your invaluable assistance in getting him transferred promptly to this city was exactly in line with the type of thing you are always doing for your subordinates. You may be perfectly certain that he will never forget your extraordinary kindness and understanding.
Young Major Gerow (the one on duty in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of War), and his divorced wife have remarried. I think there is no doubt that they will make a 'go' of the thing this time. All of us are very pleased with this happy outcome as both of them are extraordinarily fine people. I hope that some official duty will bring you to Washington soon for a few days so that we can have one of the confidential discussions that mean so much to me." In fine condition, with intersecting folds and light creases.
