Scarce ALS as president, signed “Benj. Harrison,” one page both sides, 4.75 x 8, Executive Mansion letterhead, March 19, 1890. Handwritten letter to Townsend Young in Sing Sing, New York, in full: "I have your letter of yesterday requesting the return of the note of your father and some of his letters which you sent to me with yours of the First Company with your request. I beg to enclose the papers referred to. Any proposition you may submit will have my consideration as I suggested in a former letter, but I have not thought to make any suggestion myself. I would gladly show a disposition to do something all that I can—but that might seem to you illiberal and I cannot consent to go very much into detail or to my precursory ability or as to what I have done and am doing for others." In fine condition. Accompanied by an engraved portrait.
