ALS, three pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7.25, March 6, 1858. Handwritten letter to a gentleman, in full: "As I am not very well from some of the effects of old African fevers I am obliged to decline your kind invitation for tomorrow. I did not know when you called that I had the honour to be introduced to a relative of Mrs. Duncan whose books I have read with much interest." In very good to fine condition, with minor corner loss, and old mounting remnants on the back of the final page. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from JSA.
