The images include: Bannister with his newly won Benjamin Franklin race trophy, which he won at a race in Philadelphia in 1951 with a new record time of 4:08:3; Bannister smiling before a race and wearing his O.U.A.C. (Oxford University Athletics Club) sweatshirt; the front page of New Chronicle from May 7, 1954, with the headline: “Barrister Breaks the Mile Barrier”; and Bannister crossing the finish line in the one-mile ‘Miracle Mile’ race just ahead of John Landy, at Empire Stadium on August 7, 1954, during the Vancouver Empire and Commonwealth Games.
