Description

British Royal Navy officer, politician, and peer (1697–1762) who served in the War of the Spanish Succession, War of the Quadruple Alliance, War of the Austrian Succession, and the Seven Years' War; he famously undertook a circumnavigation of the globe during the War of Jenkins' Ear. Partly-printed vellum DS, signed “Anson,” one page, 11.25 x 15, December 20, 1755. Scallop-topped ship's pass issued by the commissioners for executing the office of Lord High Admiral of Great Britain, in part: "Suffer the Ship alias Schooner Cromewell of Boston, Ebenezer Frost Master, Burthen about fifty five tons…bound for the West Indies and Europe, to pass with her Company, Passengers, Goods & Merchandize." Signed at the conclusion in ink by George Anson, and endorsed on the reverse by Spencer Phips as lieutenant governor of Massachusetts. In very good to fine condition, with overall rippling, and dampstaining to the left side.
