TLS, one page, 8 x 10.5, Federal Bureau of Investigation letterhead, February 2, 1967. Letter to Robert L. Miller, Jr., of Hueytown, Alabama, in part: "I am pleased to learn that you have found the information in my book, 'Masters of Deceit,' of help to you. Perhaps you will also wish to refer to another of my books, 'A Study of Communism,' which is a comprehensive study of the development and expansion of communism throughout the world. This may be available at your local library. As the head of the Federal investigative agency, I do not feel it would be proper for me to comment on the recent Supreme Court decision dealing with loyalty oaths." In fine condition, with light scattered creasing.
A fascinating letter in which Hoover recommends his book on the spread of communism and makes reference to Keyishian v. Board of Regents—a United States Supreme Court case, decided on January 23, 1967, in which the Court held that New York state laws requiring educators to sign loyalty oaths and to refrain from 'treasonable or seditious speech or acts' were unconstitutional.
