Fantastic 8.5 x 11 menu for the 'Birdland' jazz club on Broadway at 52nd Street in New York City, two pages, signed on the front cover in fountain pen, "Best wishes, Charlie Parker," "Dizzy Gillespie," and "Welcome to Birdland, Sincerely, Bob Garrity." In very good to fine condition, with brushing to the signatures, light handling wear, and some old tape to an inner hinge split.
Named after Charlie Parker, Birdland was one of NYC's premiere jazz clubs. It was open from 1949 to 1965 and played host to many of the biggest names in jazz: in addition to Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie, the likes of John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Billie Holiday, Thelonious Monk, Lester Young, Stan Getz, Art Blakey, Coleman Hawkins, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Bud Powell, Charles Mingus, and many more performed there. Several recordings of these concerts were released as records, including One Night In Birdland by Charlie Parker (1950), A Night at Birdland by Art Blakey (1954), Basie at Birdland by Count Basie (1960), and Live at Birdland by the John Coltrane Quartet (1964).
