Two items: a vintage program for Josef Hofmann’s ‘Golden Jubilee Concert,’ held at the Concert Hall Civic Auditorium in Long Beach, California, on February 8, 1938, 10 pages, 6 x 9, signed on the front cover in fountain pen, “Josef Hofmann, 1938”; and an unsigned original program for Hofmann’s historic performance at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City, on February 15 [1888], as part of his 10-week, 52-concert of the United States, which was facilitated by Henry Abbey and brought the child prodigy to major cities like New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, and Baltimore. The front features an engraved portrait of the young pianist with vertical text to either side: “Josef Hofmann, The Wonderful Child, Pianist and Composer, Aged 10” and “Josef Hofmann, The Greatest Genius of the Pianoforte since the days of Mozart.” In overall fine condition.
