ALS, one page, 5 x 8, October 18, 1923. Addressed from the “Hotel Garcia” in Guadalajara, a handwritten letter to “Mr. Tracy,” in full: “I had your letter too late: only on my reaching Guadalajara yesterday. I was in Los Angeles for three weeks & should have been glad to meet you. Now it will have to be some other time & place. And anyhow Murray will send me the Adelphi, so I shall see your exits - 'They have their exits & their entrances' - The exits come first, apparently. We're all filing out of the show." In fine condition. In the summer of 1923, 37-year-old Lawrence spent three months in Chapala, Mexico, not far from Guadalajara, writing the first draft of the work that eventually became The Plumed Serpent (1926).
