Description

Rare letter from the Art Deco master

French artist, illustrator, and master of the Art Deco movement (1888-1950), best remembered for his fashion etchings, many of them of an erotic nature. Scarce World War II-dated ALS in French, one page, 5.5 x 7, 6. Rue Jadin letterhead, March 31, 1943. Handwritten letter to journalist Leon Deffoux of the French periodical L'Œuvre, in full (translated): “I'm not so confused as to have made a mistake, since, in short, you think like Pierre Varenne! The pen may get the address wrong but not the heart! In the end, have you and I, and all of those who love what we love, not always stayed connected by that silken 'Thread of Ariadne' left in the wake of the radiant Juliette Drouet? – To make it short: I won't take back my 'thank you' and I fondly shake your hand.” The reverse is addressed in the hand of Icart. In fine condition.
