Description

Important German composer (1813–1883) who single-handedly revolutionized opera and attained status as one of the most influential geniuses in the history of music. ALS in German, signed “Richard Wagner,” one page, 5 x 8, August 17, 1862. Handwritten letter to a friend, in full (translated): "With an injured hand, I can write only a little: I will arrive in Frankfurt on Tuesday the 19th of this month at 9:30 in the morning, and will immediately proceed to the theater, where I would be pleased to attend the discussed choir rehearsal. I suppose I will meet Mr. Hysel there for a necessary discussion. Should anything have changed, I kindly ask to be notified." Nicely double-matted and framed with a portrait to an overall size of 16.75 x 14. In fine condition. On September 12, 1862, a month after this letter was written, Wagner conducted, for the first time, his opera Lohengrin in Frankfurt. It seems likely that the present letter refers to a rehearsal for that very performance.
