Flown gold-plated sterling silver Gemini 5 Fliteline medallion, approximately 1˝ in diameter, with a raised design of the "8 Days or Bust" mission insignia on the front, and the reverse engraved: "August 21–29, 1965," and hallmarked "Sterling" at the bottom. Condition is mint state, with noticeable fading to the gilt plating. A desirable example given that only 10 of the purported 100 Fliteline medals that flew on the Gemini 5 mission were plated with gold.
RR Auction confirms that this flown Gemini 5 Fliteline medallion was professionally tested by a Thermo Scientific Niton machine, which detected the presence of gilt plating.
