Partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 14.25 x 17.5, September 20, 1888. President Cleveland appoints Thomas L. Casey, Jr., as "Captain in the Corps of Engineers." Neatly signed at the conclusion in ink by President Grover Cleveland, and countersigned by Acting Secretary of War R. Macfeely. The navy blue seal affixed at the lower left remains mostly intact. Attractively cloth-matted and framed with a portrait and plaque to an overall size of 29.5 x 25.75. In fine condition. The appointee, Thomas Lincoln Casey, Jr. (1857–1925), was an American army engineer and entomologist noted for his work on beetles.
