Description

Univox MM20 electric guitar signed in full by the Ramones, boasting rare "Richie Beau" signature, obtained in New Hampshire in March 1984

Vintage Japanese-made Univox MM20 electric guitar with a sunburst finish, signed on the body in black felt tip by Joey, Johnny, and Dee Dee Ramone, and by Richie Beau. A heavy gauge guitar string is attached to the strap knobs for display purposes. Includes the original carrying case. In very good to fine condition, with some light fading to the signatures, and cracks, chips, and paint loss to the finish. Drummer Richard Reinhardt joined the Ramones in February 1983 before the release of Subterranean Jungle. In his first months with the group, he broke the tradition of adopting the Ramones surname and instead performed under the stage name Richie Beau. However, by the time of his first recordings with the band, he had switched to the name Richie Ramone.

Accompanied by a photo of the guitar being signed by Joey and by a letter of authenticity from Ramones historian and close friend Chris Lamy, who writes: ‘On Thursday night, March 22, 1984, the Ramones played the Club Casbah in Manchester, New Hampshire. At the time I was working for a local record chain. At dinner with the band before the show, Johnny asked me to come to the hotel after the show as they were leaving as soon as they got off stage. I told him that I could not as I had to work the next morning at 8 am (the show was scheduled to end at 1 am). I invited them to stop by the store on their way to Albany, New York, the next day and that I would see them again on Saturday in Hartford, Connecticut.

After the show, I went outside and saw a bunch of my colleagues waiting to get autographs and I told them the band had already left but would stop by the store the next day. One of the employees was the consigner, who brought the guitar to be autographed. Johnny, Joey, Dee Dee, and Richie Beau all signed the next day during their visit.”

This guitar was signed during Richie's first tour with the band as Marky had been fired just a few weeks before. Believing that fans would not believe there was a sixth Ramone brother, Richie signed under the pseudonym of ‘Richie Beau.’ A few weeks later, Johnny put a stop to the ‘Beau’ signature and Richie signed as ‘Ramone,’ making the ‘Richie Beau’ signature the rarest of all full-time Ramones member autographs.
