Description

Astronaut and cosmonaut-signed ASTP Beta cloth "flown in 1975 on the Apollo Soyuz mission"

Deke Slayton’s flown 5.5˝ x 5.5˝ swatch of Beta cloth bearing a 3.5˝ diameter emblem of the Apollo–Soyuz Test Project, signed around the insignia in black ink and felt tip by all five astronauts and cosmonauts: Thomas Stafford, Deke Slayton, Vance Brand, Valeri Kubasov, and Alexei Leonov. In fine condition.

Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by Bobbie Slayton, the wife of Deke Slayton, who attests to the patch's flown status: "This is to certify that this autographed beta cloth belonged to my husband, Deke Slayton, and was flown in 1975 on the Apollo Soyuz mission. It was locked in his safe deposit box along with other flown memorabilia. This beta cloth is genuine in all respects." The ASTP Beta cloth patch remains both a historic piece of the Apollo–Soyuz Test Project’s rich history which ended the Cold War human space race, and a rare example of an astronaut flight-certified artifact from the first international joint manned space mission.
