Description

Bright red "Staff" badge from Robert F. Kennedy's 1968 presidential campaign attributed to his brother-in-law, Peter Lawford, measuring 2.75˝ x 2˝, featuring "Kennedy for President / Staff" in gold lettering, with a red, white, and gold "Peter Lawford" label applied at center. In fine condition.

British-born actor Peter Lawford married Robert F. Kennedy's older sister, Patricia, in 1954, and became a citizen of the United States in April 1960, in time to vote for his brother-in-law, John F. Kennedy, in the upcoming presidential election. Throughout the campaign, Lawford and his fellow members of the 'Rat Pack' campaigned on Kennedy's behalf—Frank Sinatra famously dubbed him 'Brother-in-Lawford' during this period. The endorsements of Lawford, Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., and Joey Bishop did much for Jack Kennedy's popularity, connecting him to the glitz and glamor of Hollywood's elite. Although Peter Lawford and Patricia Kennedy divorced in 1966, the actor remained an active advocate for the Kennedy political cause.
