Description

Rare vacuum tube assembly from a UNIVAC I (Universal Automatic Computer I), the first commercially produced general-purpose electronic digital computer in the United States. The vacuum tube module, measuring approximately 23.5˝ x 9˝ x 2˝, and is marked as "Position P1J." It is complete with 20 vacuum tubes installed; it served as a 'ring counter,' capable of storing one decimal digit. In very good to fine condition.

Accompanied by an original full-color brochure entitled "The UNIVAC System," 10.5 x 14, 20 pages, advertising and explaining the system: "First so-called 'giant brain' on the market—first in large-scale production—first electronic computing system to satisfy the diverse needs of business management—Univac is the acknowledged leader in the electronic computing field." In very good to fine condition, with creasing to one corner.
