Leader of the Czechoslovak independence movement (1884–1948) who was president of Czechoslovakia at the time of Hitler's incursion. TLS in Czech, signed “Dr. Edvard Benes,” one page, 8.25 x 11.75, blindstamped official letterhead, June 15, 1938. Letter to the minister of foreign affairs, in part (translated): "I relieve the Ministerial Council in the personal status of officials of the higher administrative service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jaroslavs Lipu, of the office of Extraordinary Envoy and Minister Plenipotentiary to the President of the Republic of Latvia and the President of the Republic of Estonia, and entrust him with the same office to H.M. the King of Yugoslavia." In fine condition. Benes was president of Czechoslovakia from 1935 to 1938, and again from 1945 to 1948. During the interim period during World War II, he led the Czechoslovak government-in-exile 1939 to 1945.
