Description

Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Rhode Island (1727–1820). ADS signed in the third person, “William Ellery,” one page, 12 x 7.25, June 16, 1784. Handwritten pay order headed “D’t The State of Rhode Island &c a/c with William Ellery,” and reading, in part: “To his service as delegate from…5th day of June 1783 to…16th day of June 1784, including expenses, 379 days @ 4 doll’s pr day…To extra expenses incurred in traveling to & from Annapolis by increased price of board and every incident article.” On the left side, Ellery notes the total owed sum as $1516. In fine condition, with two old tape stains in the bottom blank area.
