Description

"I don't think that personal religion is a good thing to develop in public. There is quite enough room for differences over what happens in this world, without starting arguments about what happens in the next"

TLS, one page, 8 x 10.5, Burwash, Etchingham letterhead, August 14, 1925. Marked “Private,” a letter to R. D. Blumenfeld of The Daily Express, in full: “Many thanks for your note, but I don't think that personal religion is a good thing to develop in public. There is quite enough room for differences over what happens in this world, without starting arguments about what happens in the next. So, if you don't mind, I'll give that symposium a miss.” In fine condition, with some creasing to the corners.
