Description

"Used by me during the training period for the flight of Apollo 15 and was carried on the flight as a resource to identify the navigation stars"

Al Worden's flown circular star chart that was used during training and then subsequently carried aboard the Command Module Endeavour during the Apollo 15 mission, measuring 9.25˝ in diameter, featuring numerous stars and constellations printed in black on a translucent white chronopaque material. The legend below reads: "Prepared by the Aeronautical Chart and Information Center, United States Air Force, for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Feb. 1967." Marked on the reverse in black felt tip, "MSC 991-0001.46B." In fine condition.

Accompanied by a letter of provenance signed by Worden, in part: "I hereby certify that this Circular Star Chart was used by me during the training period for the flight of Apollo 15 and was carried on the flight as a resource to identify the navigation stars if needed. We used some 37 stars for navigation and there were times when it was difficult to identify even the most important stars. I did not have to use this star chart during the flight because I was able to identify and find the stars for navigation. It has been in my personal possession since that time.”
