Description

Official color glossy 7 x 7.25 photo of LMP Aldrin standing on the lunar surface during the Apollo 11 mission, his visor showing a small reflection of the photographer, Neil Armstrong, affixed to the original 11 x 14 cardstock mount, which is signed and inscribed in black felt tip, “To Russ Hair, with thanks for your efforts over the years that helped to make this picture possible. Buzz Aldrin.” The reverse of the mount bears an affixed red-numbered NASA ID: “AS11-40-5903.” In fine condition, with small flecks of emulsion loss to the image.

H. Russell Hair joined NASA at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, in 1963, as Chief of Space Medicine, and was subsequently promoted to Assistant Director of Medical Operations. He worked with NASA for 22 years and participated in Projects Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, and Spacelab. Before joining NASA, he participated in the development and flight operations of the X-15 and the XB-10.
