Description

Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Massachusetts (1744–1814) who later served as vice president under James Madison. His name entered the language as a result of his support of politically advantageous redistricting, which became known as 'gerrymandering.' ALS signed “E. Gerry,” one page, 8.25 x 4.25, January 14, 1807. Handwritten letter to John Mason, in full: “I gave you particular information, in regard to this unpleasant affair, & informed you that the accounts should be transmitted to yourself or your nephew, as you may directly; but having not received in answer, a line from either of you, I enclose them to yourself.” In very good to fine condition, with some chipping and staining to the top edge.
