Boldly signed 1797 ship’s passport for "the Ship called Minerva," signed by John Adams and Timothy Pickering

Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 19.5 x 15.5, October 3, 1797. Four-language ship's paper issued to “Thomas Cutss, Jun’r, master or commander of the Ship called Minerva…lying at present in the port of Ch’ston, bound for Amsterdam and laden with Rice, Sugar, Coffe, Cotton, Logwood& Rum.” Prominently signed at the center by President John Adams and countersigned by Secretary of State Timothy Pickering and by Collector James Simons. The original embossed white seal remains affixed to the left side. In fine condition, with some minor edge loss and fold splits. A scarce and sought-after oversized format, boasting a large signature of America's second president.
