Dutch citizen (1909–2010) who hid Anne Frank, her family, and four other Dutch Jews from the Nazis during World War II. Together with her colleague Bep Voskuijl, she retrieved Anne Frank's diary after the family was arrested, and kept the papers safe until Otto Frank returned from Auschwitz in June 1945. Letter to Graydon Wall, in full (spelling and grammar retained): “My leisure interests are first and foremost the well-being of my son's family, that consists of his lovely wife Lucy and their three teenage children. Further, I love to read about the world's different religions. while occasionally a movie may entertain me. Finally, and this may surprise you, I take great pleasure, at my age of 97, in running my own spacious 3 room apartment. Once a day I become a hot meal delivered, but for the rest I take care of everything myself. I also enjoy reading the hundreds of letters, that remain coming to me. My physical and mental health is still splendid, except for my speaking ability, which has been somewhat affected by a light stroke, I suffered 8 years ago.” In fine condition.
