President Fillmore directs the Secretary of State to affix the Seal of the United States to “a Treaty with the Chickasaw Indians, ratified by the Senate of the United States on the 13th August 1852.” Signed at the conclusion by Millard Fillmore. In fine condition, with faint toning to the edges and folds. This document pertains to the 1852 Treaty with the Chickasaw, which concluded on June 22, 1852, ratified on August 13, 1852, and proclaimed on the date of this offered document. This treaty, signed by the Chickasaw Nation and the United States, sought to expedite the sale of Chickasaw lands in the Tribe's aboriginal homeland, provide protection for a tribal burial ground near Pontotoc, Mississippi, and guarantee guardianship of the United States.
