Description

Vintage glossy 7 x 9 photo of President Truman posing beside a bust statue of himself by American sculptor Felix de Weldon (1907-2003), who is best known for his 1954 Iwo Jima war memorial at Arlington National Cemetery, signed and inscribed to the artist in fountain pen, “Best wishes to Felix De Weldon, Harry Truman." Reverse is stamp-dated on January 7, 1949, the year the statue was presented to President Truman. In very good to fine condition, with light horizontal rippling. In 1950, President Harry Truman appointed de Weldon to the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts. In 1956, he was re-appointed by President Dwight Eisenhower, and again in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy.
