Union officer (1837-1863) who commanded the all-black 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment and was killed in action during his regiment's famous charge on Fort Wagner; Shaw's efforts were dramatized in the 1989 Oscar-winning film Glory. Exceedingly rare ink signature, "believe me, very affectionately yours, Robert G. Shaw," on an off-white 4 x 1 slip affixed to an empty 4.75 x 6.5 photograph album mount. In fine condition. An incredibly scarce and important Civil War autograph from the fabled leader of the 54th Massachusetts.
