Union general (1818-1893) who, at the beginning of the Civil War, was appointed as Chief Quarter Master of the Army of the Potomac. In 1864, his close friend and classmate, General U.S. Grant, appointed him chief quartermaster of all Union armies operating against Richmond. Desirable 2.25 x 4 carte-de-visite photo of Ingalls in a near-profile pose, signed in ink, "Yours truly, Rufus Ingalls, Brig. Genl., Chief Qr. Mr. A.P."
