Complete issue of Walton's Morning Journal from July 28, 1863, four pages, 11.5 x 18.5, featuring stories on the draft, the capture of the library of Jefferson Davis, details of the charge of the 22nd on Fort Wagner, and other wartime news. The piece on the draft notes that "any persons failing to report after due service of notice…shall be deemed a deserter…all officers and soldiers convicted of having deserted, shall suffer death, or such other punishment as by sentence of court martial shall be initiated." The report on Jefferson Davis's library reports that it contains "several bushels of private and political papers of the arch traitor, several letters on secession dated back to 1852, and the whole collection will bring to light the whole secret history of secession." In fine condition, with partial splitting along the hinge.
