Front page of The Daily Mercury from April 16, 1865, one page, 12 x 18, reporting on "The Great National Calamity"—the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln—with details on the "Reported Arrest of Booth," the "Seizure of Booth's Trunk at his Hotel," the "Scope of the Plot," "How the Secretary [Seward] Saved Himself," and "The Nation's Grief." In good to very good condition, with the edges of the paper wrapped around a board and taped, a few tape stains, and various tears and wrinkling.
