Small collection of items belonging to English long-distance runner William Coales (1886–1960) who won a gold medal in the men's 3-mile team race at the London 1908 Olympics. The collection is highlighted by Coales’ cloth competitor’s cap issued to members of the Great Britain national team, made by George Kenning & Sons of London, with the padded crown bearing an embroidered Union Jack flag. Also included with the cap is a 1911 dinner program, two concert programs from 1912 and 1914, a ‘Souvenir of the Olympic Games, London 1908’ brochure published by OXO, and two vintage postcards, all of which contain images of Coales during his competitive running years. In overall fine condition.
