From the personal collection of Brazilian football (soccer) legend Pele: an attractive Portuguese-language hand-painted “Public Recognition” diploma from the municipality of Sao Jose do Rio Preto, in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil, presented to Pele while serving as Brazil's Extraordinary Minister of Sports, honoring him for his services to the country and elevating the name of Brazil beyond its borders. The diploma, one page, 15.5 x 23.25, features attractive calligraphic lettering and hand-colored designs, with manuscript text to the body, which reads, in part (translated): "Diploma of Public Recognition to the Illustrious Lord Edson Arantes do Nascimento (Pele).” Signed at the conclusion by six city officials.
