Bob Hope’s personal collection of 13 pins, tags, and charms gifted to the entertainer during his WWII service and subsequent travels throughout the 1940s. The pins, which are presented on a custom-made velvet stand that was for years displayed in Hope’s office trophy case, include the following:
- American Theater Wing mask pin with upper scroll, "A.T.W." (American Theater Wing were the creators of the famed Hollywood Canteen as well as the Tony awards; Hope often performed at these venues. This pin predates the WWII issues, which had wings added; this example stems from his time on Broadway in the 1930s)
- silver-tone presidential insignia tie bar/clothing clip, with mounted pencil (sans eraser) - given the updated seal design, this could ostensibly be a gift from fellow golf partner Dwight D. Eisenhower
- American luggage tag reading "Lester T. Hope, 10346 Moorpark, No. Hollywood, Calif” (Hope chose the name “Lester” over his birth name Leslie, and then began calling himself Bob beginning in 1928)
- gold-tone pin reading "Fight Infantile Paralysis" (1941 issue before the name was changed to The March of Dimes; Hope first became involved with the organization after attending FDR's birthday in 1939; he later became chairman for both Roosevelt and Truman)
- a gold-tone 1941 British Relief Fund pin with a gold lion and text, "Dieu Et Mon Droit,” the motto of the monarch of the United Kingdom
- a ‘Radio Broadcasters Of America’ pin in the shape of an early radio microphone
- Red Cross logo pin
- silver charm engraved “Loews State Theatre, 1940, Bob Hope"
- gold-tone star ‘California Highway Patrol’ pin
- gold-tone "Lions International" tie clip
- small silver-tone ‘Victory in the Pacific’ pin, with V and P monogram
- gold-tone "Sports Service League, Member" pin
- PGA pin encircled “Professional Golfers' Association of America - Hole In One"
In overall fine condition. The pins were all listed on the September 16, 1953 inventory of Hope's trophy case.
