Description

The former president on reading: “My all-time favorite book is Let Us Now Praise Famous Men by James Agee…The book that has had the greatest impact on my life is The Bible”

TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, July 1994. Letter to “the 4th & 5th Graders of Allenby Public School,” in full: “I am glad to learn of your efforts to become better readers through ‘Share a Book Month.’ When I was a child, my mother encouraged me to read extensively, and the habit carried over into my adult life. Today, I am usually reading two or three books at a time, and at every possible opportunity. I don't have a favorite time or place to read, and I don't hesitate to read while traveling or at home, day or night. My all-time favorite book is Let Us Now Praise Famous Men by James Agee. The book tells vividly and beautifully about life during the depression, when I was a child. The book that has had the greatest impact on my life is The Bible. Rosalynn joins me in sending you our warm best wishes for a successful school year.” In fine condition, with light creasing to the upper left corner.
