Free franked mailing envelope, 5.5 x 3, addressed in a secretarial hand to "W. W. Pelham, Boston," and franked in the upper right as secretary of state, “James Madison." Postmarked at Washington on October 13th, with an ink notation to the inner envelope dating the year 1804. Reverse panel bears remnants of the original red wax seal. In fine condition, with a central vertical fold.
