King of England and Ireland (1566–1625) under whom the 'Golden Age' of Elizabethan literature and drama continued, and who famously sponsored the translation of the Bible into English; as King James VI, he ruled Scotland from 1567 until his death. Manuscript DS in Early Modern English, signed “James R.,” one page, 7.75 x 11.25, December 1588. Untranslated official document signed by the ruling king of Scotland. In good to very good condition, with heavy staining affecting both text and appearance but, remarkably, not the signature (which could be nicely matted on its own if so desired).
