Description

Partly-printed vellum DS as president, signed “M. Van Buren,” one page, 12 x 7, April 28, 1838. President Van Buren appoints Joel S. Kennard as a “Midshipman in the Navy of the United States.” Signed at the conclusion by Martin Van Buren and countersigned by Secretary of the Navy Mahlon Dickerson. The left side is embossed with the Navy Department seal. In fine condition, with scattered light foxing and soiling.
