Description

(Walt Disney Studios, 1991) Attractive original presentation cel of Beast from Beauty and the Beast, depicting the caped creature barging through a doorway, his path impeded by a fallen chair. The hand-painted cel is placed on a matching studio copy background of a preliminary drawing of a castle hallway and bedroom. The total image measures 9 x 8.25, with a mat opening of 15.75 x 9.75. Double-matted with a plate to an overall size of 19.75 x 14.75. The piece has the silver Walt Disney Company seal to lower right. In fine condition.

Because Beauty and the Beast was hand-drawn on paper and then scanned, painted, and composited via computer, there are no production cels, making presentation cels like this quite scarce and prized by collectors. This cel, which was created from the original archived production drawings and painted by the world-famous Disney Ink and Paint Department, derives from the collection of Peter Schneider, former President of Walt Disney Feature Animation and a key figure in the studio's renaissance during the 1980s and 1990s. Schneider, who served as the first President of Feature Animation and later as Disney Studio Chief, played an instrumental role in the transformation of Disney's animated features. Under his guidance, the studio produced some of its most critically acclaimed and commercially successful films.
