American songwriter (1820–1895) who found particular fame during the Civil War for his patriotic songs. AMQS on an off-white 7.5 x 4.5 album page, signed neatly in black ink, “Geo. F. Root, Ap. 1895,” who pens three bars of music and lyrics to his famous Civil War song, 'The Rally Cry of Freedom,' with Root adding lyrics below, “Yes we'll rally 'round the flag boys!” In fine condition.
