Letter opener engraved on the handle, "The President and Mrs. Nixon," measuring 9˝ long, with a raised golden presidential seal set into the base. The opener is marked "Webster / Sterling" on the handle and "Stainless" on the blade. It is housed in a red jewelry box with golden trim, with a golden presidential seal on the cover. In fine condition, with tarnishing to the silver handle and one of the two blue threads designed to secure the opener in the box broken. Consignor notes that this was formerly owned by White House Usher Rex W. Scouten (1924-2013).
