Lawyer and signer of the Constitution from Delaware (1732–1808) who also served as an officer during the Revolutionary War, governor of Delaware, and governor of Pennsylvania. Partly-printed DS, one page, 8.25 x 6.25, January 12, 1784. Pay order issued to Treasurer David Rittenhouse, in part: "Pay to George Schwartz, Lieutenant in the German Regiment of the Pennsylvania Line, or his order, the sum of twenty pounds six shillings & six pence being one year's interest on his depreciation certificate." Signed at the conclusion in ink by John Dickinson, countersigned in the upper left by John Nicholson, and endorsed at the bottom by George Schwartz. Handsomely suede-matted and framed with a portrait and biographical plaque to an overall size of 24.5 x 19.5. In fine condition.
