Description

Department store magnate (1838–1922) who also served as Postmaster General from 1889 to 1893. LS signed “Jno. Wanamaker,” one page, 5.5 x 8.5, Office of Postmaster General letterhead, May 7, 1889. Letter to a gentleman in New Bedford, Massachusetts, in full: "I beg to acknowledge the receipt of your esteemed letter and say that on further consultation with your Representative in Congress the Department has issued a Commission to the Postmaster of New Bedford, Mass." Beautifully suede-matted and framed with a portrait and plaque to an overall size of 21.75 x 21. In fine condition.
