Description

Politician and financial genius (1761–1849) who served as Secretary of the Treasury under Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, and was responsible for the formation of what is now known as the Ways and Means Committee. LS, one page, 7.5 x 9.25, April 22, 1811. Letter to Attorney General Caesar A. Rodney, in part: "I have the honor to enclose for your consideration, a letter from the Comptroller of the Treasury, in relation to a claim against the United States by the heirs of Robert H. Harrison, deceased, and to request that you will favor me with your opinion thereon." Gorgeously cloth-matted and framed with an engraved portrait and biographical plaque to an overall size of 22.5 x 24.75. In fine condition, with scattered light dampstaining.
