Character actor (1879–1961) best remembered as the mad scientist Dr. Pretorius in The Bride of Frankenstein. ALS, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, January 7, 1935. Handwritten letter to a gentleman, written from Hollywood during the period that he was filming Bride of Frankenstein, in part: "I regret that I shall not be back in England in time for your 'Evening of Bad Taste,' which sounds most entertaining. But I hope you will not direct all your venom on the Victorian Era & might suggest that an Aspidistra, though frequently misplaced, cannot be accused of bad taste—& that the 'Art Nouveau' is even worse than the paintings of Landseer." In fine condition.
