ALS signed “Nath’l Hawthorne,” one page, 4 x 6.25, October 17, 1853. Addressed from Liverpool, England, a handwritten letter to Thomas George Morton of Philadelphia, sending his autograph. In full: “Your note, addressed to me at Concord, has just reached me on this side of the Atlantic. I take pleasure in complying with your request.” Archivally cloth-matted and framed with the original hand-addressed mailing envelope and an original cabinet photograph of Hawthorne by London photographer J. J. E. Mayall to an overall size of 15.75 x 19.25; window to frame backing reveals the envelope’s original red wax seal. In fine condition. Hawthorne was in Liverpool as Consul, appointed by President Franklin Pierce. Morton was a physician and educational reformer.
