Page removed from a program for the Beatles' 1963 UK tour with Roy Orbison, 8 x 10.25, signed next to their images in black ballpoint, “Paul McCartney,” “John Lennon,” “George Harrison,” and “Ringo Starr.” The consignor notes that her mother obtained these signatures after the Beatles played at King George’s Hall in Blackburn, Lancashire, England, on June 9, 1963, dating to the last show of their UK tour with Roy Orbison; incidentally, the lyric ‘4000 holes in Blackburn Lancashire’ was also part of the 1967 Beatles song ‘A Day in the Life,’ which appeared on the group’s 1967 album Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. In very good condition, with overall creasing, intersecting folds, a couple of short edge tears, and some surface and paper loss to the corners. Although Orbison was originally scheduled to be the headline act, the public's reaction to the Beatles tour resulted in them being co-headliners, with the Fab Four closing the set in the traditional headlining spot.
Per the consignor: ‘My mother had just turned 16 years old two days before the concert. She lived in Blackburn at the time, and she was excited to celebrate her birthday by watching who would become the most iconic boy band in the world. At the end of the concert, having missed her last bus home, she bumped into Milton Howarth, who at the time was a journalist for The Lancashire Evening Telegraph. He said to her ‘If you wait outside I'll walk with you, but I just have to go and do an interview with The Beatles.’ He saw that she had the concert programme in her hand and said ‘Give me your programme and I'll get them to sign it for you.’ Back in their dressing room the Fab Four spoke to a reporter from the Telegraph, with John quoted as saying: ‘They were the best crowds we have had yet. I could have played for another hour.’’
