(Walt Disney Studios, 1940) Exceptionally rare original concept painting of Yen Sid from the 'Sorcerer's Apprentice' segment of Fantasia, showing the powerful sorcerer casting a spell in his inner sanctum; dressed in his blue robe and hat, the wizard is pictured on a large bench conjuring a winged apparition from the top of a human skull. Accomplished in gouache on black 7.75 x 8 artist's board. In fine condition, with tack holes to corners. Yen Sid remains rare across all early Disney production formats, with this being the first concept piece that we have offered. Rarity aside, the painting is deftly rendered, with its hues of brown and teal adding a distinct atmosphere to the already intense scene.
