NASA flight suit and USAF MB-3 flight helmet from the personal collection of veteran Space Shuttle astronaut George ‘Pinky’ Nelson. The blue flight suit, no size, features American flag and NASA ‘worm’ patches to the shoulders, and the left chest bears a NASA ‘meatball’ logo patch below a Velcro-attached leather name patch, “Pinky.” The coverall features several zippered pockets and Velcro female-loop pads, the majority of the latter present to lower leg sections. The United States Air Force MB-3 flight helmet features a white leather exterior with an H-149/AIC Headset (earphones, earpads, and cable) that includes an oxygen mask with tube. The interior contains the original parts label: “Helmet Flying, Protective / H-149/AIC Headset, Type MB-3 / MIL-H-25758A (USAF) / Aviators Equipment Corp / Contract AF 36(600)-6538 / Size Large.” The MB-3 was a lightweight semi-rigid helmet intended for aircrewmen flying long hours and requiring maximum comfort. In overall fine condition, with wear and scuffs to helmet (interior foam padding secured but deteriorating).
