Issued from Fort Riley, Kansas, a letter of recommendation for the appointment of Sergeant Furcy, which is signed by seven future Union Generals (Gettysburg hero John Buford, Henry Hastings Sibley, Lewis Merrill, George Henry Gordon, Thomas J. Wood, Thomas F. Wright, and Samuel D. Sturgis) and three Confederate generals (Frank Crawford Armstrong (the only General to serve on both sides during the war), James Morrison Hawes, and Richard H. Anderson). In very good to fine condition, with scattered staining, and a clipped lower left corner. A rare combination of Civil War signatures.
